| Bio: | General Information Name: Kevin Ford Nicknames: Kev, Ford Codename: Wither Age: 18 Gender: Male Powers Description of Powers: Wither decays, and eventually disintegrates, organic matter by touch — a power which is involuntary. With extended contact he would reduce almost anything — or anyone — organic to dust. This power is even more difficult to deal with due to the fact that it wants Kevin to use it. It has a "hunger", which gives Kevin a desire to use it. He is also sometimes shown to see things in their decayed form, such as live pigeons appearing to be decayed through his eyes. He had the ability to put out fire with his bare hands in a few issues. Parents: Mr. and Mrs. Ford (deceased) Siblings: None Personal History: Kevin was an only child, born and raised in the south of the United States. His mother died when he was still young, leaving Kevin in the care of his father. Kevin loved his father, never really rebelling the way most children his age might. Mr. Ford understood his son's love of art and encouraged it. Things would likely have gone on like that if not for Kevin's powers. When he manifested, he panicked. As one would when their clothes suddenly start disintegrating off of them. Mr. Ford did his best to reassure Kevin and get him to calm down, but he made the mistake of touching Kevin's skin. He was reduced to ashes in only moments and Kevin ran for the first time. For a while, he lived in a nearby junkyard, having used his powers to take care of the guard dog. He was eventually found and brought to the Xavier Institute, where he developed a crush on Laurie Collins. When Donald Piece, a cyborg and mutant hater, attacked with his Reavers and impaled Laurie, Kevin used his powers to decay the skin from Pierce's face and skull. Dani Moonstar had to use her powers to show him his greatest fear, harming Laurie or those he cares for, before he would stop. Realizing how "right" using his powers felt, he ran away from the school. It wasn't until several months later that he returned, brought back by Emma Frost and Dani Moonstar to fill the sixth spot in the New Mutants team. It was Emma that persuaded him to return, as he was still angry with Dani, and joined the squad under the name of Wither. Returning meant clashing with Elixir, who had been one of the Reavers that had attacked and was now Laurie's boyfriend, but also meant that he found himself with Cessily, one of the Hellions whose body was made entirely of metal. He could touch her without killing her, which was as good a start for a relationship as any, really. Shortly after he returned, he was arrested by the FBI for the death of his father. While the Hellions tried to break him out of jail, the New Mutants tried to stop them. The X-Men arrived to break it up, taking everybody back with them. When Kevin returned, he swapped squads with Jay Guthrie and became a Hellion. Some time later, he found out about Josh and Rahne Sinclair's former relationship and made it public, wreaking things between Elixir and Laurie. On M-Day, the majority of mutants lost their powers. Kevin thought he was one until he touched Laurie's hand. Though it didn't kill her, it did wither her hand, making Kevin feel guilt and depressed. After a session in the Danger Cave, he overheard Julian Keller call him 'dangerous'. It was the last straw and made Kevin run away from the Institute a second time.
